A High Quality Chemotheraphy Isolation Gown Is Essential to Protecting Healthcare Workers Against Hazardous Drug Exposure

A high quality chemotheraphy isolation gown is essential to protecting healthcare workers against hazardous drug exposure.high quality chemotheraphy isolation gown These single-use breathable and impervious procedural gowns resist penetration from wet bacteria, contaminated solid particles, liquids, and various common chemotherapy drugs. The gowns are made of a PE-coated three-layered Prevention Plus material to provide maximum comfort and protection. The gowns feature a soft knit cuff and waist tie to prevent chafing on long procedures, allowing medical professionals to remain focused on patient care.

Gowns are part of a comprehensive infection-control strategy in hospitals and other health care settings. They create a barrier between the wearer and potentially infectious liquids, solids, or fluid-borne microorganisms that may come into contact with the skin. These protective garments help prevent the spread of disease-causing organisms and can also stop the transfer of harmful substances to a vulnerable patient, such as those with compromised immune systems.

Often referred to as surgical isolation gowns, non-sterile medical isolation gowns, non-surgical patient isolation gowns, or procedural gowns, medical gowns are categorized under personal protective equipment (PPE) and are designed for use in situations where the risk of contamination is low to moderate. In some cases, a more protective gown may be required for specific invasive procedures that pose greater risks.

There are four levels of liquid barrier protection, defined by the American National Standards Institute and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instruments (AAMI) as PB70 guidelines. A medical gown must be rated at least as level 1 to qualify as protective clothing. Levels 2 to 4 are rated for resistance to blood, body fluids, chemicals, and other infectious materials.

The AAMI-rated HALYARD procedure cover-up gowns and sleeves are poly-coated to resist penetration from chemotherapy drugs. These disposable, lightweight, fluid-resistant isolation gowns are tested to ASTM F 739-12 for penetration by 53 common chemotherapy drugs and feature a patented over-the-head design with tape tab neck closure for easy donning and doffing. The gowns and sleeves are also available with thumb loop cuffs to keep sleeves from riding up and ensure wrist coverage under exam gloves.

Featuring the same fluid-resistant qualities as the HALYARD gowns, these single-use reusable chemo gowns are available in several sizes and feature elastic cuffs for an adjustable fit, a soft knit cuff that prevents chafing during long procedures, and a waist and neck tie for secure attachment. They are also tested for penetration by 51 common chemotherapy drugs, and the soft fabric is resistant to stains and tears.
